Coble Connection
Friends of Coble,
The color red has a special significance at Coble. Wearing a red shirt shows support of drug prevention. This Friday all the students wore red to show their support. Mrs. Brady led out this year, and she brought in the county drug prevention team and their mobile van. All of the students were shown some scary examples of what happens to people that get involved with drugs. We also had a drug poster contest. The grand prize winner for the school was Brandon Hudson, who will get his poster displayed in the Gordon County calendar.
DP Inc., the provider of our special needs support, showed the faculty a video “Understanding Learning Disabilities.” This video had a profound effect on all of us, because the audience was a participant as a special needs child. We were asked questions that were difficult or impossible for us to answer and then put under stress if we were slow or unable to answer. All of us came away from the video as much more sympathetic. The video also provided practical ways for the teacher to help the learning challenged.
This week grades three thru eight are taking the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. The students are also taking part in the Cognitive Genesis testing. Part of the process is for the parents to fill out a response. Coble Elementary is also getting in on the testing by sending home a school evaluation for the parents and students.
Next week while the students are enjoying their fall break the teachers will be meeting on Wednesday and Thursday here at the school. We plan to continue with the special needs training, Southern Union Conference training and we plan to clean out the rest of our teaching supplies from the old school.
